The TrustEngine Story


Have you ever ‘clicked’ with someone right away? Have you ever built trust with someone quicker than you were expecting?

TrustEngine was founded to help replicate this experience and build certainty and quality into the matching process of graduate, apprenticeship, mentoring, and coaching programs.

Long time friends and colleagues, the founders Alex and Roland have spent the last 60 years (combined!) on both sides of the match in mentoring and coaching, and throughout their careers have seen and experienced the engagement and growth of a good match, and the frustration and disconnection of a bad match.

In their professional engagements, Alex and Roland continued to notice the repeated and distinct common factors that would lead to a better-quality match. Wanting to replicate and systemise these results while removing bias – TrustEngine was born. TrustEngine is backed by peer reviewed research and was built on the foundation of real-world mentoring and coaching experience in the ‘trenches’, the boardroom, and everywhere in between.

Alex Gardner

Co-Founder & Co-CEO

Alex Gardner is a seasoned senior executive with over 40 years of international experience, specialising in business transformation, organisational strategy, and leadership development. A Chartered Engineer and accredited EMCC & ICF coach, Alex has worked across 20+ countries, guiding executives and frontline teams through complex change initiatives.

Alex’s expertise in coaching and mentoring empowers leaders in the oil, gas, mining, and heavy industry sectors to drive sustainable performance improvements. With an MBA and a Bachelor of Engineering, Alex brings a strategic, people-focused approach to leadership and operational excellence.

Roland McCormack

Co-Founder & Co-CEO

Roland McCormack is a highly experienced leader with a strong background in coaching, project management, and technology, particularly within the oil, gas, mining, and resources industries. With a Master of Project Management and a Bachelor of Science, Roland combines data-driven strategy with a people-first approach to drive continuous improvement.

An ICF and EMCC accredited coach, Roland excels in building strong relationships across all levels of an organisation, from frontline teams to senior executives. Roland’s expertise in executive coaching and technology-driven solutions enables organisations to enhance performance and achieve sustainable results.

Matthew Smith

Matthew is a practicing Barrister with Pacific Chambers in Hong Kong. Prior to becoming a Barrister, Matthew had over 35 years leadership and senior management experience in both the public and private sector.

Matthew built a long and distinguished career at technology firm Cisco, where he held various global senior roles, initially focusing on intellectual property protection and later on deploying advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence across both the public and private sectors. Before joining Cisco, he worked as a forensic accounting manager at KPMG. His career began in public service, first as a Naval Officer and later as an Inspector in the Hong Kong Police, where he served in both the Marine Police and the Commercial Crime Bureau.

Jen Sharp

Jen is a people leader working in large organisations for the past 20 years. She has co-created and established targeted mentoring programs and has been responsible for coordinating coaching programs with over 20 new participants each year which resulted in significant cultural change.

Jen is passionate about coaching and mentoring. She has been coaching in leadership and career development for the past 10 years both as part of in-house roles and independently with her own business.

She has a depth of knowledge on both the importance of finding the right relationship between participants in mentoring programs and the practical needs of those who are administering these programs.

Robert Cheung

Robert is a technologist with over 20 years experience in technical leadership and executive roles. Having worked in some of the largest national institutions and international companies in roles ranging from applied research, development and solution delivery. Robert has created inventions and patents, and designed large scale systems used by large international companies in finance, health, teleco and government sectors.

Robert enjoys both mentoring the next generation of talent, and leveraging his experience to refine the solutions for the next set of challenges. He believes these goals can be achieved with clarity of vision and soundness of judgement, the ultimate levels of which can only be attained by combining the skills of many people into a cohesive team.
